USA Withdraws from UN Women

President Trump has just signed an executive order withdrawing the USA from 66 international organisations, conventions or treaties which are deemed contrary to the interests of the United States. Of these, 31 are United Nations’ bodies or conventions.

Prominent amongst these 66 withdrawals are organisations related to climate change, including the one which has been most prominent in news reports – withdrawal from the IPCC.

The purpose of this very brief post is to point out that one of the 31 UN bodies from which the USA has withdrawn is UN Women – properly called the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

This is significant. UN Women has been the leading organisation promoting the grossly biased policies on gender issues for decades. In 1995 it was responsible for the creation of the Beijing Platform. This embedded gender mainstreaming in UN policy, ensuring that across every subject the impact on women had to be considered as a priority, and ensured to be positive. From UN Women this has flowed out to the whole world through myriad local organisations, pressure groups, and national politics.
